Purpose

Learners accredited with this unit standard will be able to conduct basic rigging practices in accordance with legislative safety standards and job requirements. This includes the inspection, selection and use of slings and lifting tackle to safely lift, move and stack loads.

Unit Standard Range

Scope:
All operations are to be conducted under supervision.
Load capacity for this unit standard not to exceed 2t. (two metric tons)
The safe working load (SWL) of selected lifting equipment must be adequate for the loads used.

Level (for level 2)
A learning programme leading to the award of this unit standard should develop learners who demonstrate:
(a) Ability to carry out moderate tasks that are familiar
(b) Ability to offer a clear choice of routine responses
(c) Basic operational knowledge base as indicated in the embedded knowledge component and that are readily available
(d) An understanding of known solutions to familiar problems with little generation of new ideas
(e) Ability to work under direct supervision with some responsibility
