Purpose
Learners credited with this standard will be able to apply relevant legislation and regulations to the context in which they operate. The environment in which lifting machines are operated is inherently dangerous and therefore needs to be regulated to prevent injury and death. Learners will be capable of ensuring their own safety and that of fellow workers through the responsible use of lifting machines.

• Explaining the legislative framework governing lifting machines.
• Explaining the Driven Machinery Regulations (1988) [DMR] and related Regulations.
• Maintaining the safety of self and others.
